When it comes to consoling teenagers, Clopin really knows how to give them a self-esteem boost.
After Esmeralda had conquered the art of dancing, she began her interest in singing at 16. She realized that singing wasn't exactly her best asset, (since her voice was a bit on the raspy side) and held herself in her room after being bullied by her girlfriends. She then complained to Clopin, who willingly offered to vocally coach her through the art of singing for her benefit in performing.
Esmeralda seldom uses her voice during performances, but she at least sounds decent while singing "God Help the Outcasts."
Esmeralda and Clopin belong to Disney/Victor Hugo
